About Us

Northampton Model Aero Club was founded in 1932 and has been in continuous operation ever since. In 1982 the club started exchange visits with Marburg Model Flying Club, Northampton's twin town in Germany and continues to do so on a alternate years basis.

The objective of the Club is to promote interest, techniques and friendship among people involved in all aspects of Aeromodelling.

The Club is affiliated to the British Model Flying Association, the sport’s governing body. Membership of the BMFA provides the necessary insurance cover and is compulsory for all Club members.

As a Club, we take part in several aspects of aeromodelling, including radio-controlled fixed-wing powered aircraft and gliders, slope soaring and indoor flying.

Any new applicant will be required to demonstrate their ability to undertake and control a fixed wing aeroplane. For a novice applicant it may be possible, depending on circumstances at the time, for arrangements to be made to enable the applicant to have three(3) free assessment flights with a qualified instructor using our club's equipment. This will enable both parties to assess their ability to pursue this hobby. It is recommended that novice applicants do not purchase any equipment until they have been advised by club instructors.

We have access to a flying field near Higham Ferrers, which is open for flying 7 days a week, where members may fly their models legally and safely.
